Minutes of Harston Residents Group Virtual Meeting on 16th April 2024

2. Review of minutes of last meeting.

Agreed.

3. Traffic and transport

EWR

EWR is holding 9 drop-in sessions between Bedford and Cambridge in May, in preparation for Statutory Consultation in the summer.

Transport Group asked EWR for a session in Harston but they declined.

Bridget Smith, Anthony Browne and Chris Carter-Chapman were contacted for support in having a Drop-in session here because of the proximity of the proposed route to the village.

Nearest sessions to Harston are.

  • Friday 10th May – South Cambridgeshire Hall, Cambourne Business Park, Cambourne CB23 6EA. 2-7pm.
  • Tuesday 21st May – St Philip’s Church, 185 Mill Rd, Cambridge CB1 3AN. 2-7pm
  • Wed. 22nd May, – Comberton Village Hall, Green End, Comberton CB23 7DY. 2-7pm

Representatives of HRG and HPC are meeting Chris Carter-Chapman on 26th April.

EWR is having pre-consultation meeting with Harston Parish Council.

Flooding. No new information.

Maria King saw the flooding and she is in contact with Anglian Water.

Other updates

New science park at old chemical/sewerage works near Hauxton has been approved. Cycle facilities and 330 car parking spaces with projected 1,000 employees. More vehicles on/off the site is likely to cause more congestion on A10, which will affect traffic through Harston.

Active travel

No new information on active travel and Melbourne Greenway.

Action. BW will contact Kerry Allen for updates.

BW will attend GCP in Foxton about revised plans for Melbourne greenway.

HR will contact Lizzie Woods, a Neighbourhood Plan contact.

4. Communications

FB will add updates to website as he gets them. This will include the Drop-in dates.

A big Thank You to FB for maintaining the website.

All suggestions for events and contributions to go in newsletter are welcome.

5. Neighbourhood Plan

Draft NP has been produced. NP Consultation from 27th April to 11th June.

The Village Design and Landscape Character documents summarise parts of the NP.

There will be a displays and drop-in sessions from now till June, including:

  • before the Parish Meeting on 25th April, from 6.30pm.
  • at Betterbrew Coffee Morning on 4th May, 10.30-12.30am
  • at the Litter Pick on 28th May at the pavilion, 2-4pm.

Displays will also be at the school and Food Hub at Baptist Church.

Spare copies and poster to be left at Parish church.

Reminder boards at entrances to village.

Deadline for feedback forms on draft NP is on 11th June.

6. Community activities

Greener Harston

Last Saturday of month.

War memorial is being maintained. Box hedge may have to be removed due to box moth infestation.

24th April 2-4pm. Tea and cake fundraiser in aid of EAAA in Village Hall.

April 24th. In Conversation at Harston Parish Church. Christine Webber. Information is on church website – sadly this has had to be cancelled

25th April. Annual Parish Meeting. 6.30 refreshments before meeting at 7pm. Village Hall.

NP display

HRG will provide summary of activities.

All community groups are welcome.

28th April 2-4pm. Litter Pick. Meet at Pavilion. Cake and tea provided.

BW will collect keys and unlock.

Cake contributions welcome.

May 8th 7-8pm. Defibrillator training in Village Hall. Apply to Sheila Turnbull for a place.

18th May Plant sale at Harston House.

28th May. Football in a cage on Harston Recreation Ground. For 7-13 year olds.

13th July. Family Fun Day at parish church.

7. Planning developments

New planning application for development at Centenary Works.

Porsche is having new parking area built on old Aston martin site, which it is promised will stop the growing problem of staff parking all along High Meadow. They have also negotiated use of car parking spaces at the Village Hall.

8. Liaison with the Parish Council

SSRI contacted HPC re activities with children in Harston. Coming to rec on 28th May with Football in a Cage. If successful HPC will look at more activities. Children aged 7-13 years.

HPC has just recruited new councillor, Owen Reynolds. Council now has full number of councillors.
